Newlands Spring Primary and Nursery School

Music

At Newlands Spring Primary and Nursery School we are very proud of our full and varied music curriculum.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have weekly whole class violin lessons.  In KS2 they learn to play the recorder and glockenspiel and a range of percussion instruments.

As well as music lessons in class, children take part in a production each year. Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 perform an annual Christmas production, Years 3 and 4 perform during the Spring Term and Year 6 perform during the Summer Term.  Year 5 take part in the Junior Music Festival.

We also offer a number of extra curricular music clubs including djembe drums and choir.

Our school choir performs regularly and last year took part in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall singing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to support Barnardos. This year they will be taking part in Young Voices at the O2.

Many of our children also opt to have private music lessons with one of our many peripatetic teachers.  These include singing, woodwind, piano, drums, brass, guitar and strings.

Please do contact the office if your child is interested.
