Newlands Spring Primary and Nursery School

PE and Sporting Achievements

P.E has a high profile within our school and children have the opportunity to learn a wide range of sports and skills.  Our curriculum is deliberately varied and supported by specialist teachers for some areas of P.E.  All children also have sessions with a specialist Yoga and Mindfulness teacher.

At Newlands Spring we want every child to have the opportunity to take part in sports and provide a wide range of extra-curricular clubs as well as lunchtime football provided by Chelmsford City FC.

Each year, KS1 and KS2 have a Sports Day which has a competitive element. KS2 Sports Day takes place at Chelmsford Sports and Athletics centre. Last year we adapted this to run a highly successful Sports Week, with children tackling a series of different activites every day including more unusual sports such as Fencing and Archery through visiting coaches.

Throughout the year, all pupils have the opportunity to participate in local sport competitions run by Chelmsford School Sports Partnership. This can also lead to participation at County Level if successful!  In the past this has included Netball and Kurling.

Children  participate in District Sports every year, which showcases the best young athletes from Chelmsford and surrounding areas.  We are proud to have won this on more than one occasion.

We are fortunate to have our own pool on site and each year group has weekly swimming lessons, for a term, taught by a qualified swimming teacher.

Our intention is that all our children will leave Newlands Spring Primary & Nursery School being able to swim 25m.  In 2019 96% of pupils achieved this target.
